Sounds of yesterday. Places with charm.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

el-afilador

Although Palma de Mallorca is a large city, modern and open to the world today has surprised me a sound he thought was no longer heard the streets long ago. This is the familiar melody with his harmonica playing the character of the now forgotten "sharpener" that has long walked the streets of our towns and cities. Without realizing it, I felt transported to my childhood, when it was common to hear the melody, when the smell of freshly baked bread warned of the arrival of the baker, who ran his car with the town's streets offering basic food.

And is that even though we are modernizing rapidly, there are still plenty of detail and ancestral customs that make a place retains the charm of yesterday.

In Spain there are still villages in which the baker, the milkman or the fishmonger for instance, through the streets warning of their arrival to the neighbors come and offer their precious products.

Is there an unexpected place in which you felt surprised by a charming custom detail or ancient? Is there a particular sound or smell that you remember with particular fondness?

Share with us those details.

Traveling Anecdotes. Scare in Thailandia

tuk-tuk

Anyone visiting Thailandia, safe ending by jumping on a Tuk-Tuk, since they are cheaper and more original than the conventional taxis.

Drivers of this kind of motorcars, perform for the amusement of tourists mad race between the frenetic traffic of Bangkok, and I must say that to European eyes, your driving is not the most civic.

As we returned to our hotel late in the morning after visiting the night market and being our driver Patbong locked in a sprint with another congener, suddenly broke away from another Tuk-Tuk in carrying our friends, turned sharply to the left at the same time we feel as we descended a steep slope, which as if it were a roller coaster that we did revolviesen guts. Traveling Anecdotes. Sealed toilet

retrete

This happened to a person I knew who was the first time I went traveling and came back, went to complain to the agency.

The lady in question, he went to tell people that everything had gone very well, that the hotel was very nice, but had not been able to use the bathroom in the room throughout the stay because it was sealed!, And the worst was having to go to the toilet to pass water over the coffee shop, or if you felt like at night ...

The blessed woman had not even gone to complain to reception ...

At least if I had gone, he would have said that the seal means that the maid has cleaned!

Traveling Anecdotes. Suspicious noise.

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Continue with travel stories, this was told to me someone who worked at the airport:

An airport employee (this was before S11), found on the tapes a suitcase emitting a strange sound, so that security warned.

When passing the luggage scanner, failed to identify the object emitting the sound, in contrast, seemed more suspicious. Obviously, they knew it was not a bomb, and attempted to locate the passenger.

There was a foreign woman in years, and when asked by that object, you did the fool and said he did not understand what was asked, so I politely asked him to open his suitcase, something to which she flatly refused. (more ...)
